 INEZ'S LEGACY: UNPRECEDENTED IMPROVEMENTS, ADVOCACY

The SCEA President Sheila C. Gallagher issued the following statement this morning on the announcement that Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum will not seek re-election to her post.

"Members of The SCEA across South Carolina are proud of the progress made by public schools under Inez Tenenbaum's steady, capable, and innovative leadership since 1999. Unprecedented improvements in student achievement will be her legacy, alongside her zealous advocacy -- in public and in private -- for South Carolina’s public schools. Superintendent Tenenbaum's successor will have large shoes to fill but will inherit a system of public education that is gaining strength and health daily, thanks to her stewardship. Educators will miss Inez Tenenbaum's sure grace and tenacity on behalf of students, educators, and parents, but we are grateful to have had her service and friendship. We wish our friend and advocate well."
